Quarry Hill Nature Center
A Rochester favorite for senior, family, and engagement sessions. The mix of mature hardwoods, exposed limestone, and open meadow gives every session three distinct looks within walking distance.
Limestone bluffs, autumn maples, and quiet trails minutes from downtown.
Everything you need to know before the shoot.
- —Late September – October peak color
- —Mid-May fresh greens
- —January for moody snow
Earth tones, deep greens, cream, rust, and camel hold up beautifully against the limestone and oak. Layered textures (knits, denim, leather) photograph better than busy patterns.
Free parking on-site at the nature center lot (701 Silver Creek Rd NE, Rochester). Most photo spots are 5–10 minutes' walk on packed dirt trails — bring an extra pair of shoes if you're in heels.

Common questions.
Do we need a permit to shoot at Quarry Hill?+
No permit is required for portrait sessions. Commercial shoots with large crews should call the nature center ahead of time as a courtesy.
How long is a typical Quarry Hill session?+
Most sessions run 60–90 minutes, which gives us time to cover the meadow, the bluffs, and the maple grove without rushing.
